He is the current head of Aikido (inheriting the lineage in 1999). His father was Kisshomaru Ueshiba, the second head of Aikido, and his grandfather was Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. After graduating from Meiji Gakuin University with a degree in economics, he joined the Aikikai Foundation.
