Ichthyosaurus communis Psittacosaurus and wetland environmentsIchthyosaurus communis was a marine ichthyosaur reptile from the Early Jurassic of Europe, particularly well known from fossils recovered along the Jurassic Coast of southern England, at classic localities such as Lyme Regis and Charmouth in Dorset. Formally described by De la Beche and Conybeare in 1821, this taxon is the type species of the genus Ichthyosaurus and one of the most iconic forms in the early history of British palaeontology. Its
